The New Jersey Live Steamers, Inc. (NJLS) has been running live steam engines in central New Jersey since 1961. We are privileged to live in a state that has seen a lot of important industrial history from canals, mills, mines, and railroading to many advances in engineering technology. We encourage the interest in model engineering of all kinds and share a love for living steam engines.
This website is provided solely for the benefit of our members. NJLS is a private club, open only to members and their invited, supervised guests. For the sake of members' privacy, there is minimal identifying information provided on this website. Members have been provided contact information, which they are required to keep confidential and should use with the utmost discretion. We all seem to enjoy seeing photos, so keep sending them for possible publication on the website or in The Whistle Blast. However... Please EMAIL them (rather than sending snapshots in the mail). You may send as many photos as you wish; there are no restrictions on size, amount, nor resolution, as long as they are in .JPEG FORMAT. Or, if you have several personal photos you'd like to share, please post them to your own website and just send us a link to your webpage; we'll post it here! (For example, Google offers free photo posting online to your very own site!
Email photos, as well as all other correspondence, to the club's email address: <njlivesteamers at gmail dot com>. This will be the only active email address from now on, so that we can avoid getting lots of spam in our personal email boxes. It seems that our personal email addresses were distributed to mailing lists, blogs, etc., so we were getting lots of junk mail. This also can occur when you write out the email address as a hypertext link, so that's why it is spelled out (at, dot). Please don't put club members' email addresses into mass mailing or group mailing lists; no one wants the junk mail that ensues. Thanks from all your email friends!
This webpage has content aimed at NJLS members, including: a list of events, significant information and forms, and photographs of our fun activities, plus a few significant links to other sites. WORK DAYS:
The next Work Day is Saturday, March 6th.
(Remember, Work Days are always the 1st Saturday of every month + we have 2 Special Work Days on the Saturdays prior to Meets.) Please come join us in these endeavors, and remember to bring your own tools (labeled with your name). And, if at any time you are ever looking for something helpful to do, the following tasks always need to be done, and re-done ;) ... Cleaning up debris and leaves, mowing the grass, cleaning the bathrooms, and sweeping & washing the clubhouse floor.
Thanks to all of you who so willingly come out and work on our club!

Report on Dec. 5th Work Day progress: The new load of plastic ties arrived! Sincere thanks to Ann and Ken Miller for making another big trip to the plastic-ties factory in PA and hauling 100 twelve-foot 2x4s back to NJLS, where they were joined by a few hearty members, who braved the wind, rain, and snow! - to help unload all this material. We all owe them a great big thanks for doing all this loading, hauling, and unloading of heavy materials, and for giving up their time to do it all, so please tell them THANKS the next time you see them!

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE 1.5" TRACK:
1.5” Track Notice: The factory in PA that made the plastic 2x4x12ft from recycled plastic bottles has gone out of business. We got one, final load on November 7th. Do NOT cut this load all into ties without first checking with Paul Preuss, as some of this final load is headed into switch repairs (not just 14” ties).
1.5” Out of Service Notice: The 1.5” Outer Loop track will be out of service effective 4 Nov 09 until further notice - for repairs to both the East straight track, and the West track between the bridges. The estimated completion is April 2010.

The tree we were planning to have removed fell down due to the stormy weather! It did some damage, mainly to the Elevated Track, and to the new 1.5" track leading up to the new ramp + the track behind the Engine House. The 1" Ground Track was untouched. There is no damage to trains nor to any storage areas. Bill Musgrave cut down the remaining, damaged tree, and then cut it up into manageable pieces. Thank you, Bill!
And, since then, our "Wednesday Crew" did more clean-up and track work. And the many attendees at the big, Saturday, November 9th Work Day accomplished a great deal more! Thank you so much to everyone who contributed time and effort; we really appreciate you!
