These rules
apply to Steam Up/Blow Down Meets, Spring and Fall
Meets, Visitors' Picnics and any other times of gathering with other than NJLS Regular
Members. Meets must be manned by a sufficient number of Regular Members to
assure proper crowd control and safety. To assure a successful Meet, Members
should sign up for Meet Duty. These rules shall accompany the previously
published operating rules.
‑1½" scale trains only
shall carry passengers. There shall be two or three passenger carrying cars
in a train, except by special permission of the Board of Directors. A passenger
may ride on a smaller scale train only at the personal invitation of its
Engineer, who shall be responsible for its safe operation. 1½ scale passenger
carrying trains shall operate on the outside loop. All other 1½ scale trains
shall operate on the inside loop.

‑Each train carrying visiting passengers
(other than family members) shall have two crewmen on board: an Engineer, and a
Conductor who rides the rear seat. The Conductor shall be equipped with a
signaling device capable of alerting the Engineer of a problem. No train with
passengers shall be moved without a Conductor on board. The Conductor shall be
chosen by the Engineer and should be someone familiar with proper and safe
train operation.
‑The Engineer operating a train shall be
someone who regularly operates a locomotive and who demonstrates knowledge and
skill for operating a train.
‑Speed restrictions shall apply to all
trains.
‑No person shall carry anyone on his lap
while riding a train.
‑For safety reasons, visitors will be
allowed in the
‑Enforcement of these Operating Rules
shall rest with the Officers and Directors of the NJLS. Infractions of these
rules can result in suspension of operating privileges for the day. Causing a
collision will result in removal from the track.
