NJLS April 5, 2008 Workday -
Photos and progress reports supplied by Chris Harding and John Stibravy
Many people work on club projects without necessarily getting individualized credit for it,
nor getting photographed doing it, but please know that your efforts are greatly appreciated by all of us.
You're dedication to NJLS makes this a great club and will keep it running for many generations to come. THANK YOU!!)
The first plastic tie panel is done 5 April 08.
Progress Report as illustrated in above photos:
By the end of the day, here is what we achieved:
Cut all the plastic into ties running 4 saws. And we had extra saws there. Used 2 man crews with other people carrying lumber and plastic. The 4 crews finished all the cutting in only 2 ½ hours.
Total cuts for 4 saws were about 1,700.
Built 4 plastic straight sections + enough ties with the tie plates on for 3 more asap.
Rebuilt 2 wood straight sections for the barn yards.
Installed 3-4 rebuilt yard switches. They may have gotten all 4 in.
Worked on the new down ramp from the transfer table.
Cut 166 2x4 lengths into ties and saved 42 lengths for switch repair. Those are tarped by the dumpster.
Trenched maybe 30 ft, 8” deep, along the west outer main across from where the water tower is going to rebury electric signal conduit which was heaved up above ground.
Dug out a mess of leaves from Russell Lake blocking the drain pipe.
Ballasted outer main by the Russell Lake bridge and at the wye bridges.
A crew numbered each 1.5” engine shed bay on the overhead door. Looks nice.
Someone asked me if we are still behind. Not for April!
Another said to me, "People really want to come out to work and be active!"
Many thanks to all of you!
